African violets are one of the most popular indoor house plants in the world. They come in a variety of colors including violet, raspberry, pink and white. Did you know that it’s incredibly easy to prompt African violets to bloom continually?
Have you ever wondered why you cannot get your African violet to bloom again after you bring it home from the store? It’s likely due to temperature and lighting conditions. African violets need constant indirect light and especially love northern lighting. They thrive in an environment where the lighting and temperature are controlled and familiar to them. They can survive on very little water and will make constant blooms.
Instructions
1) place the African violet in a northern or southern facing window, year-round
2) water the plant when the violet is completely dry, once every other week is usually more than enough. water from the bottom of the plant and avoid touching the leaves
3) repot the violet every 1-2 years using African violet soil so that it does not become root-bound
4) the most ideal temperature for an African violet is 65 °F to 75 °F
Tips: pinch off any dead leaves. Never place in a western or eastern facing window, it will burn the leaves. When repotting an African violet you may notice that the stem has grown very long and the plant is drooping. You can trim the stem shorter and repot the violet. If you trim the stem, let it sit out to heal for a day or two before putting it in the dirt again. A wonderful zero waste organic fertilizer to encourage blooms is EarthPods African Violet Plant Food
