This recipe for lemon-ginger sugar body scrub will leave your skin feeling soft and exfoliated.  It makes a wonderful zero waste gift for family and friends & is incredibly easy and inexpensive to make.  You can use any type of citrus zest that you like and get creative with the types of scrubs you make!  The coconut oil in this aromatic scrub will leave your skin soft, hydrated & moisturized.

Ingredients
1 tbsp lemon zest (2 lemons)
1/2 tsp minced ginger
3.5 tbsp coconut oil
2/3 cup granulated sugar

Instructions
1) finely grate 2 lemons until you have a tablespoon of zest and set it aside
2) peel ginger and finely grate or mince, add to lemon zest
2) microwave or double boil the coconut oil until it turns into liquid
3) stir in the sugar, lemon zest & minced ginger

Tips:  This homemade lemon-ginger sugar scrub will last for a few weeks.  For longevity, make a small batch of the scrub & store it in a container with a tight lid.  Be careful not to get any water inside the container while you are in the shower or tub.  If you are looking for a scrub that has a longer shelf life you can replace the lemon zest with a drop or two of food-grade lemon essential oil.  It’s important that the essential oil be very diluted and listed as safe for external use.  If you have sensitive skin you may want to refrain from using a sugar scrub on your face.  Never apply pure essential oils directly to your skin or face.  You can apply the scrub with your hands or use a soap saver bag.
