This holiday season make beautiful handmade dried citrus ornaments out of orange, lime, lemon & grapefruit slices.  You can hang them on the tree, create a garland & use them to decorate your holiday table. When light shines through, these citrus ornaments will have a stained glass effect with a beautiful glow. You can even use these handmade dried citrus ornaments to decorate your holiday gift wrap.

Ingredients
oranges, limes, lemons & grapefruit

Instructions
1) slice the fruit into round quarter-inch thin slices, removing the seeds afterward
2) arrange the slices onto a baking sheet and bake at 170°F for 6 hours, flipping slices over once per hour
3) carefully place an ornament hook on each slice or string the slices together to create a garland

Tips: It’s ok if the slices are slightly different widths, a bigger knife may be easier for cutting even slices than a small knife.  Store dried citrus in mason jars and place them somewhere cool and dark.  These ornaments should last 2-5 years, as long as they are fully dried before storing.  You can experiment with making different types of citrus ornaments by removing the skin from the fruit.  It is also possible to create these ornaments by using a food dehydrator.
