These planters are more versatile than jack o’ lanterns because you can decorate with them anytime from late September through late November.  They are not only easier to make than jack o’ lanterns they are also much less messy. In only a few moments you can make a gorgeous pumpkin planter to decorate your home! If you like this post you will love this one too:  Create Your Own Autumn Tea Light Candle Holders

Ingredients
miniature pumpkins in varied sizes and colors
a serrated knife or pumpkin carving knife
small spoon
small plants such as succulents or cacti which are short in height

Instructions
1) cut off the pumpkin tops and put in your compost bin
2) scoop out the pumpkin seeds with a spoon and set aside for other uses
3) gently remove small plants from their pots and place them inside the pumpkin planters

Tips:  These pumpkin planters will last several weeks and possibly months depending on how ripe the pumpkin is and how cool the temperature is where it’s located.  Keep in mind that most succulents prefer temperatures between 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit and require some indirect light to survive. You could probably place one in a dimly lit room for a few days without having too many issues since they are very resilient. You don’t have to use a pumpkin you can actually use anything you want such as a gourd, apple, or even citrus. Get creative! Save the seeds from the pumpkin to plant in the spring. You can grow your own mini pumpkins this way!
