Did you know you can grow basil in a tiny greenhouse? All you need is a little pot and a glass dome. I used a stemless wine glass to make mine. You won’t believe how fast your basil will grow & you can transfer it to a larger pot once it’s ready! You can grow endless basil this way.
Instructions
1) purchase or collect basil seeds
2) fill a tiny-sized terra-cotta pot 3/4 full with soil
3) water soil thoroughly and drain
4) place seeds on top of dirt & sprinkle 1/2 inch more soil
5) gently water again, do not disturb seed placement
6) place the pot in a sunny window and cover with a small glass cup or stem-less wine glass. Place a small saucer or a piece of cloth underneath to protect your window sill.
7) wait a week or two for seeds to sprout, do not remove the glass
8) once basil leaves grow a 1/2 inch height remove glass and plant in a pot that is 3-5 times larger, place in window uncovered
9) harvest seeds and repeat steps
Tips: you can increase the size of your basil plant by sprouting several rounds of seeds and combining them. Basil prefers full-sun when sprouting and southern facing light once the glass is removed. A wonderful zero waste organic fertilizer to encourage growth is EarthPods Root & Plant Starter.
