Is gift wrap something you buy every holiday season? Did you know that recycling paper from packages as gift wrap is free and easy to do? The next time you receive a package in the mail that has crumpled brown kraft paper inside of it, save that paper for gift wrap purposes.
Did you know that store-bought gift wrap doesn’t actually get recycled the way we think it does when we throw it away? Even if we place it in our recycle or compost bins for pickup it oftentimes will never be recycled. This is because gift wrap is actually lined with plastic and heavy with ink. This often makes it impossible to recycle. As a result, it ends up going to a landfill. Sparkles & glitter are not recyclable either. And, I’m sure you’ve noticed most tubes of paper come wrapped in a thin layer of plastic, which will end up in a landfill. On top of all of this, it’s often very expensive to buy. Gift wrap is a product that is purchased only to be thrown away, which is concerning for our planet, our trees, and our oceans. Please consider switching to recycled kraft paper for your gifts this year.
