The primrose plant is native to parts of Europe, Southeast Asia, and northern Africa. This plant blooms mid to late winter and is a perennial. These plants like high humidity and they love bright lit windows. They like cool temperatures and will thrive in a chilly room. If your primrose plant is potted you can put it away for the summer and fall months in a dark dry place, or you can transfer it into the ground. They don’t normally bloom in the summer and like to be shaded.

Indoor primroses can be fussy and they require a bit of patience. If the flowers suddenly wilt overnight it’s likely that it’s gotten too dry and needs to be thoroughly watered. Water the plant heavily from beneath by placing it in a bowl of water. Drain any excess water off and place it back in the window.  In a few hours, the blooms will open back up. If any of the leaves are still wilted after the plant has been revived, pinch them off at the base of the stem & this will help aid in regrowing the plant. Be careful not to leave a primrose in standing water for long periods of time, since this type of plant is prone to root rot.
